Inspiration From Pottery Barn

I don’t have one single piece of furniture in my current house that will work in the family room of the house in Hooterville.
With the big stone fireplace, the family room has somewhat of a rustic feel.

There is NOTHING about my current house that is rustic.
Not one thing.
So, I’ve been looking around for decorating ideas and inspiration.
Like many of you, I recently got a new Pottery Barn catalog and I saw this.

I sort of like the  casual, rustic “feel” of this room.    Love the rustic look of the coffee table wood  and the casualness of the slipcovers on the sofa.  After having white slipcovers in my living room at my current house, I am convinced I never want another sofa unless it has slipcovers.
Especially a sofa that will get a lot of wear and tear from daily use in a family room setting.
With that being said, there was one element in this room that I was really, really drawn to though and it wasn’t furniture.  Can you guess what it is?
Can you see it now?

I don’t know why but I’m loving that piece of art that looks like a  rusty, worn clock on the back wall.  I’ve searched the catalog and the website to see if I can find out more about it…what it’s made of…how it’s made…but it would appear it is only a prop so I couldn’t find any details  or close-up photos of it.
Nevertheless, I’m putting it in my idea file and I might attempt to create my own knockoff version of this clock for the family room.
Someday.
After I actually have some furniture in the family room first.
I don’t think my husband will take too kindly to me accessorizing with big, rusty clock artwork before he has something to sit on to watch television.
Priorities, ya know?

I spotted that clock face in the photo instantly as well. What a cool piece and that would be very easy to replicate. Great find. I'll have to tuck that away as well.

Hi Shari,
Your definitely on the right track, everything in this room would look gorgeous with that stone fireplace, in fact even better than the inspirational picture found in the catalog. I like the wooden shelf going across, but for me I would make it more on the brownish color it looks like it's kinda on the reddish side from the post. Actually I like the color in the catalog picture.... what do you think? I knew It was the clock too, very nice!

Until next time-

I think the rustic clock is a wonderful piece and worth sourcing. I love your rustic fireplace. It sounds as if you are going to open your decorating taste to something a little different. How fun for you. I love the mix of the rustic and elegant. Rustic/Elegance is a great look and it sounds like it fits you perfectly. So you are Green, just like me. Wasn't that little quiz fun? Thanks for the visit,Kathysue

Great minds seem to be thinking the same thoughts! I saw that clock before I noticed anything else in the room. I think you should definitely have one in your family room - maybe after you have at least ONE place to sit. ~Adrienne~

Hi Shari,
That clock was the first thing I saw, after the white sofa...I love white sofas...the entire room was beautiful, and I could see similarites to your living room at your house. That rustin fireplace has great potential...just saw a re-do of something similar on a HGTV...they modernized it without destroying the character of the house. You're on the right track, with decorating books...something will click and you'll be on a roll, tying things all together...but you're right...get a sofa for hubby first thing!

Still have a cold, but wanted to drop in and see what how you're doing. I'm going to try to catch up a little on your last few posts...looks like some interesting things there!

Take care, Shari...hugs to you, and God bless!

Slipcovers and over sized artwork would look great in your family room with that huge fireplace. IKEA has a really inexpensive slipcovered sofa that I have heard alot of good reviews on, the EKHART maybe, anyway it is the one that Cindy from My Romantic Home purchased recently. That clock is gorgeous, it would be perfect, wouldn't it. Hugs, Cindy S

Hi Shari, I clicked the wrong button and I came up anonymous (sorry!) I'm the one who said some folk pottery would look great on the mantle. I DO love that stonewall!

I love your blog. I noticed that the blogger at Alchemy Junk has done a knock off of the PB clock. She plans to do a tutorial this week. You might want to check it out.

Shari, I love the clock. I hope you can find something similar. And yes I think your hubby would appreciate some seating :-) Love your fireplace. Have you looked at Pioneer Woman's blog when she was remodeling/decorating their ranch?

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I really appreciate you letting me know about the upcoming tutorial on Alchemy Junk. I don't think I've ever visited that blog before so I've bookmarked the site and will be anxiously waiting to see her interpretation of the PB clock.

And I'm happy to know you enjoy my blog. I hope you will come back often. :)
