Kitchen Remodel—Days 2, 3, 4 & 5: In With the New!

The kitchen remodel at the house in Hooterville kicked into high gear this week after the old kitchen was torn out last Friday.

On Day 2 of the remodel, hubby did electrical work  for the new cook top, wall oven and under-the-counter lighting.

Rodney, my cabinet guy, was back on Day 3 and got most of the cabinets put in.

Unfortunately, that ugly, homemade light fixture from the old kitchen will have to continue to hang there just a bit longer.  Until we can get  the new lighting installed, it’s our only source of artificial light in the kitchen.

On day 4, the remaining cabinets were installed, as well as the countertops.  The crown moldings, to close in the tops of the cabinets, were started.

Meet Dan.    He’s a “Get-Ur-Done” kind of guy.

Dan came to give me an estimate for remodeling the hall bathroom and ended up helping solve a little problem that came up during the kitchen remodel.  After the cabinets were installed,  I realized there was a wall that would look better if it was cut back.  When Dan said it was a relatively easy job and he could do it, I didn’t even have to think twice.  I just said, “Great! Go for it!”   In a future post, I’ll be showing you what a huge difference taking the wall back about 8 inches made.

On day 5 the crown moldings were finished and caulked.  All the holes from the fake ceiling beams were patched.  The plumbing was reconnected and the faucet was installed.  The drawer and  door  hardware,  wall oven and cook top were  installed.

Here’s a peek at the crown moldings and door pulls.

Next week I should be able to  reveal a 90% done kitchen.

Your new kitchen is a dream come true! Thanks for sharing the progress with us. Now I'm ready to tear mine out and start over! Don't think my sweetheart would be too impressed if I did that without a plan - and a budget - for that! Can't wait to see more. You're making incredible progress now, girlfriend.
