An Apology To Those Who Leave Comments

spam4

It has been almost 6 months since I started my blog and up until this week, I had  received only a couple spam comments during that time.  However,  for some reason, I have received 3 or 4 spam comments in this past week alone, primarily on older posts.  I don’t understand why all of a sudden I am now getting a rash of these  unsavory comments but I don’t want links for male “enhancement” products etc.  “dirtying” up my blog.  If possible, I’d like to nip this in the bud so,  for now,  I have decided to enable the Word Verification feature for comments.
It really saddens me to have to resort to this because I know most people dislike having to type those Word Verification letters when they want to leave a comment.   As you probably know, another option would be for me to turn on the “Comment Moderation” feature instead of the Word Verification  but if I use the Comment Moderation,  your comments would not appear until I had a chance to approve them.  With me running back and forth to the house in Hooterville, I might not get a chance to approve your comments right away and I’d really like for  comments to appear as soon as you leave them.
If you have a preference… Word Verification or Comment Moderation…please feel free to let me know.  (To use both would be redundant so it would be either one or the other.)
Again, I apologize for this inconvenience to you.    Please know I only plan on  using one of these features for a short time, in an effort to  see if it will encourage the spammers to go elsewhere.

Hi Sherry,

Sorry you have received those strange comments. I didn't know that happened...so far, I've been lucky enough not to see anything like that. I'm like you, I don't like the word verification, because sometimes the screen doesn't automatically let me know I had to enter it, and I leave the blog, thinking I've left a comment when I haven't. But if that's what it takes, then I'll do it. There are always going to be people that like to hurt others...its just a fact of life, and we just can't seem to rid ourselves of them. Recently, there have been two other bloggers that have received hurtful comments, and have turned on word verification as well, so its not just you. Don't apologize...its not your fault.

How is Hooterville going? Hope you're making progress, and that you're starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Take care, Sherry...God bless you!

Hi Shari..
I too received one of the most hurtful comments which really shook me up.. this was shortly after I started my blog back in August..
so far, no more have occurred.
It did upset me until I had deleted it and moved on.
I think the word verification method would be the most simple solution for both you and the commenters..
Love your blog!!
Hugs!

What can you do... these things happen. Just ignore and delete :).

Happy to stick with you, despite the annoying word verification.

Hi Shari, I am so sorry to hear this, but it is happening to alot of bloggers now. I have not changed mine yet, but thinking about it. I received some comments a few weeks ago from this one blogger advertising and I just went and deleted them all from him or her. I have also noticed in the last few weeks that my email is receiving alot of spam too. It is ashame that others have to do this to us. I like coming to your blog and reading and leaving a comment,so whatever you choose is alright with me. I will still be coming back. You have a wonderful blog.

Hi Shari! I'm so sorry to hear this! I've been fortunate so far to not have this happen to me. I won't to keep coming back to visit you so you just do what you need to.
Hopefully, the spam will stop!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Hi Shari, I visit you on White Wednesdays with Faded Charm. I had one of those things on my followers. I was able to deliete it, and make it so it couldn't come back. Good Luck! There are too many good things that come out of your blog to let a few upset you. It goes with the territory.

Thanks for letting up support you though.

Hi, it's me again, I've just gone all the way down your blog to catch up on your "Farm". I've had so much fun doing so, and I've left comments to you.

I remember you now, you are a beautiful women. What city did your husband work in? My husband is in city government here in Utah.

I have received several this week too. Likewise all are on older posts. I dislike the word verification so much that I decided to just have any post that is older than ten days require approval. This way those who leave comments don't have to use word verification and I catch the spam and don't publish it. It's a win/win for me!

Hi...I have blogged for almost 2 years and this past week I got my first ugly email...sexual in nature...of course, I deleted it. I was surprised though...You need to use whatever method you can to make you feel comfortable. I have always used the moderation...also another way for me to be able to answer back to my commentors. Just easier for me....good luck.

Hi Shari,
Whatever you decide, I will follow the directions. Its sad that people don't have anything better to do than leave rude comments. That would scare me too.

Hugs,
Connie

I so don't blame you at all. When I first started blogging, I received a very distasteful follower. I deleted the comment, but have only been able to figure out how to hide that person as a follower. I hope to figure out how to permanently delete it. I think its very important for us to protect ourselves, so we can continue to enjoy blogging.

Hope all is going well in Hooterville.

No worries, Shari, I don't mind doing the word verification thingy:') I am so sorry some embecile has decided to make your life harder. That is not fair, but we know they are out there lurking somewhere, wainting to do their dirty deeds. Anyways, whatever it takes, I'm along for the ride. Big hugs, Cindy S.

Hello Shari, I have been blogging for one year now. Last week I received four of those unwanted comments in old posts too. If it continues I will try word verification also. sandi
