Furniture Shopping

Finally!
I have  placed an order for a couple pieces of furniture for the family room at the house in Hooterville
YEAH!
I’ve posted before about the white matelasse slip covered sofa and loveseat in my current living room so it’s no secret how much I love EVERYTHING about slipcovers.   When I set out on my furniture shopping expedition, I was adamant that I wanted another slip covered sofa for the family room.
I found this sofa at a locally owned furniture store.  It’s a classic style, pretty much identical to the  Pottery Barn sofa that is so popular right now  but this sofa was almost half as expensive as PB’s price.  I also like the fact that it’s  a bit firmer than the PB sofas.   As much as I hate to admit it, I find the older I get, the harder it is to get up off of squishy, very soft furniture.

The showroom sofa shown here was covered in a pale yellow twill fabric but there was a vast array of other fabrics and colors to chose from, far more than PB offers.  I ordered  a natural color cotton twill slipcover, which will give me lots of decorating flexibility.  However, I’m thinking  I might order another slipcover at a later date,  in a different fabric/color,  possibly in green.
I also decided to get the chair and ottoman in the same natural twill fabric.

As I’ve mentioned before, I have no furniture in my current house that will work in the family room at the house in Hooterville.  The white matelasse sofa and loveseat I have will go in the “formal” living room.  The (rattan) furniture  in my current family room will be used in the sunroom at the house in Hooterville.  That means  starting from scratch in the house in Hooterville family room so,  in addition to the sofa, chair and ottoman I ordered,  I am looking for  a comfortable recliner for my hubby, a coffee table, end tables, and a media console to hold the TV and components.
I really like this console unit  I found at American Signature Furniture.

But I’m wondering if it might be a little too formal for the more casual PB look I’m going for in the family room.  What do you think fellow decorating enthusiasts?

Oh, so many choices and decisions!  It makes my brain hurt.

Oh how fun to be getting all new furniture. I love the sofa and the natural twill color will be such fun to decorate with. The possibilities will be endless. I love the console and don't think it is too formal at all. It looks like a very versatile piece that could be used anywhere. I can't wait to see it all pulled together. Hugs, Marty

That is a great sofa, chair and ottoman, they will be perfect in the new family room. If you like the Pottery Barn look, then perhaps keep looking, at flea markets and used furniture stores like consignment stores. I kind of think that piece, even though it is very beautiful may not fit in with the farmhouse look that you are going for in there. Just my opinion. Hugs, Cindy S

Hi Shari, love the new sofa. I wanted to let you know that the stain I used was Minwax Gel Stain in Aged Oak 602. I was looking at your last post about the vanity and I was going to say paint it black but then I scrolled down further and saw that you did paint it, I like it black!! Thanks for visiting me (;

I like what you have done so far, and like the console too. Since I am thinking about getting new furniture, your post has really helped me - I've been looking online at PB too, and found the same sofa...now I will look locally just like you did! Thanks for the advise!! Love what you did in your guest bath also!

Hi Shari ~
I've been watching your progress on your Hooterville house, and I love the pottery barn look alike sofa too! I have looked at the ones from Ikea but I think they are too small scale & uncomfortable. Can you please tell me where you found your look alike sofa & chair ? I can't afford the expensive Pottery Barn ones !!
Can't wait to see yours when you get them ~
Thanks !

Benita, I bought my PB look-alike sofa & chair through a local furniture store called Matter Brothers. They have stores in Ft. Myers, Naples, Pinellas Park and Tarpon Springs, Florida. I think the salesman told me the furniture is made in Ocala, FL. I'm going to see if I can find out the name of the furniture manufacturer so if you (or anyone else) is interested in trying to order one, perhaps it would be possible for a small "mom & pop" type furniture store in your area to order from the manufacturer for you. Who knows, maybe the manufacturer would take an order directly from a customer or even a decorator, if you know one.

You might also want to check out the Linden Street "Friday" slip-covered sofa that J.C.Penney's carries in some of their stores and through the on-line site. When they have it on sale (which seems to be often), it is very reasonably priced ($749.00 today on the internet site). I thought it was fairly comfortable and it would have probably been my 2nd choice if I had not found the one through Matter Bros. JCP only offers a handful of fabric choices 'tho...6 solids, a stripe & a floral.

Hi Shari! Oh, I'm just loving seeing how everything is coming together in your Hooterville house. I love that! The sofa, chair and ottoman are all so nice and a bargain is so sweet! You have wonderful taste and can't wait to see it all come together. Now I like that console. I little dressy is always good! :)
How cute about the ponies! There's no telling what else is up in the attic because my daughter wanted to hang on to all her toys! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)

In the comment above (which I have now removed), I had given specific information regarding the name of the furniture manufacturer and style # of the sofa I had ordered from the Matter Brothers furniture store in Pinellas Park, FL.

I have removed this info because I can no longer recommend the sofa manufacturer OR Matter Brothers furniture store in good faith.

For more information about why, please see this link:
