Another Craigslist Bargain

Back in April, I saw this cherry buffet advertised on Craigslist for $300.00.  I really liked it but didn’t want to spend $300 for it so I just bookmarked the ad and kept checking on it periodically.

Every 2 or 3 weeks, the seller would renew the ad.  After several weeks she lowered the price to $275.00.  A couple more weeks passed and she dropped the price to $250.   When she reduced the price to $225 two weeks ago, that was more in the ballpark of what I was willing to pay so I told my hubby we needed to make arrangements to go see it.
Since the buffet had been listed for so long, I had a feeling the seller might be tired of messing with it so I thought I’d take a chance and see if she would take $160 for it.
She countered with $200.
I came back with an offer of  $180.
She agreed to the $180 commenting, “Yeah, I’m just ready for it to be gone!”
The moral of the story…  never be afraid to (politely) haggle a little over the price of a Craigslist item, especially if you know it has been for sale for a while!

Wow Shari, it is beautiful. I was just looking on Craigslist tonight. We've been to Southern Hospitality today and bought a dining room set and sofa. Little by little, bit by bit. Painting starts tomorrow. Woo-hoo!

Hi Shari- This looks to be a pretty nice piece of furniture. Does it have a manufacturer name inside the drawer? I ask because I'm in the furniture biz.
I agree that you can always bargain with the seller. Don't you think it's expected? I've been able to bargain down the price each time I've bought something.
Happy 4th of July!

Oh, "Craigslist bargain" -- honey, you are talking my language!

I have also gotten some amazing bargains on Craigslist, often stalking items as they go lower in price; it pays to be patient!

Your buffet is gorgeous!
Enjoy it.
And have a happy 4th of July!

Shari,
I want to thank you for posting my daughter Heather’s photo and link to her story on your sidebar. Your generosity is heartfelt and deeply appreciated. A Good Samaritan stepped forward and was approved by the transplant team to begin testing. Nothing is certain, but we are hopeful. I updated the original post, but I’m leaving it up in case we need to find a new donor if this doesn’t work out.
I had the false sense of security coming from a large family someone would be a match when the time came. Over 25 friends and family offered, but none turned out to be Heather’s blood type. At this point I made the decision to use my blog to reach out to people. The actor Robert Redford’s son has the same disease as Heather and they produced a documentary called “The Kindness of Strangers” to spread the word about the importance of organ donation. Heather was the picture of health growing up so her illness was completely unexpected. The kindness of strangers is exactly what happens in transplants and I know I’m forever changed by this experience. I’m sorry to take up so much room on your post, but thank you, thank your, thank you for helping us in our time of need.
Hugs, Cathy

P.S. Your new sideboard is a wonderful find and I love you got it for such a fantastic price!
