The Power of Paint……A Metamorphosis Monday Transformation

As I have previously mentioned, I have been painting furniture in my home, little by little, in an attempt to convert  to cottage style decor.
Today, for Metamorphosis Monday, I would like to share a project that is probably one of the most dramatic “before” and “after” transformations that has taken place in my home.  I painted an old 3 piece wall unit that has been in my living room for eons.
I have had a love/hate relationship with this wall unit.
I have loved it because it nicely fills up  a long, awkward wall we have in our living room.  It has also given me lots of space to display many sentimental items that belonged to  my mother and grandmother, plus other things I have collected over the years.  Last, but certainly not least, it  has three very roomy storage areas concealed behind doors.  I need all the storage  space I can get!
But for at least the past decade, I have also hated it because it was so dark and out-dated looking.  It was definitely “stuck in the 70’s.”

After its  metamorphosis, it still is not my idea of  the  "perfect" cottage piece but it’s better.   It seems a little more current and feels "fresher” to me.

Paint can make a difference and it is good that we can make an older piece of furniture look new again.

I am so glad I clicked on your link on Between Naps on the Porch...I have a unit almost identical to this one that I'm wanting to paint...just hadn't had the nerve yet...you give me hope and inspiration that it can be done...and will look much more modern and fresh and not so dark ages!!! Thanks so much!!!

Wow, I think the transformation is just fabulous. It doesn't even look like the same piece. I think it's really current and has a great cottage look. You did a fabulous job. Hugs, Marty

What a huge project! It looks great! I'm slowly getting up the confidence to paint all of my old living room furniture too! Just seeing what you've done has given me the encouragement I needed!

Hi Shari! This piece turned out wonderfully! Aren't you so glad you painted it? I am loving what paint can do for an old piece. I've been stuck on painting things white too. I hope you enjoy your beautiful transformation!

Great job! I had a ton of things that needed a new paint job- got my DH sprayer out the other day and went to town!!! Just have them primed and need to do final paint but it is so much easier than a paint brush!

Oh Shari! That looks fabulous. I can NEVER get over what a coat (or three) can do for something. It doesn't even look like the same cabinet. I love the pink on the backs too....it's just YUMMY!

Yes! I did put that island on RMS, but it's been repainted twice since then. Thanks for your sweet compliment. I do love it.

Thank you too for your photo tips. I need alllll the help I can get. I'm going to get the book out and see what I can figure out.

Hugs!

Good Morning. Thanks for the kind remarks you left on my blog about my grandkids.

You have inspired me to do the same thing about the cottage style look.

I have always love it, but did not do much to get it.

Now I have seen so many people painting there things that I am making a list on some of mine to do.

Thanks again.

It's soooo pretty! It's so hard for me to paint wood but once I do it - I'm so happy with the results. That looks awesome! Great job!

Very nice job! Oh I could also see a little trim above if you ever wanted to add to the cottage feel like the gingerbread on a house! Love the pics of your daughter and Tango. I have a horse named Too Slick Two Tango (registered name)aka, Slick....you can see all six of our horses at blueeyedtango.blogspot.com!

Hi Shari,

I was thinking about the painting again and thought about doing our bed. Now we have a wood and metal bed and I was thinking of painting the metal white, it is black now. Is there anything I have to do before I paint the metal?

I know that when you paint wood you need to sand it down before you paint, but not sure about metal things.
