I think I’m definitely going through a creative slump and it is spilling over into my blogging, as evidenced by my lack of posts lately. All of the endless remodeling/decorating decisions and DIY projects in the past year and a half on the house in Hooterville, not to mention the packing, moving and unpacking, have left me feeling like I’ve hit the wall. Hard.
I have been working on a few little things but nothing that seems creative, pretty or significantly worthy enough to share. Posting about getting 2 new cabinets and a ceiling fan hung in the still unfinished laundry room or the new dust ruffle I bought for the bed seems so lame…and boring. I can’t even seem to muster up enough creativity to coax my camera into taking any pretty pictures.
Sooooo…what’s a blogger to do? I thought I’d share an interesting little discovery I made this week.
Warning: no pretty pictures or decorating inspiration below. :(
When we bought the house in Hooterville, the garage did not have a door. Actually, it still doesn’t. We have bought one but with all the other projects and renovations going on, my hubby hasn’t had a chance to install it yet. In the city, this would pose a security risk but out here in the country…apparently not so much, so the garage is open 24/7.
In the back left corner of the garage is an entrance to the house (with the door that I haven’t had a chance to paint yet). Just a few feet from the door is an old refrigerator we use mostly for chilling extra drinks.
Whenever bottled water is on sale for dirt cheap, we usually stock up. We go through a lot of water during the hot summer months (plus it’s always good to have extra bottled water on hand through hurricane season), so next to the refrigerator sits multiple cases of bottled water (and a case of Dr. Pepper).
Stay with me here. I’m actually going someplace with this. ;)
On top of the stacked cases of bottled water is an open case.
Much to my surprise, I discovered a bird’s nest in the open case a few days ago. I thought this was such an odd place for a bird to build a nest. But maybe not. At least it’s out of the elements.
There are no eggs in it yet but it is definitely an active nest because if there is too much activity around the back door or refrigerator, Mrs. Bird (a small sparrow-like bird) flies out and startles the bezeebers out of me. I’ve been trying to get a picture of her but every time I think to go out with my camera, she’s not in there.
Needless to say, in an effort not to disturb her too much, I guess we won’t be drinking much bottled water during the next month or two while we wait to see if she raises a family in there.
Have you ever found a nest in an odd place?

Hi Shari! Aw...you're just worn out! You've done so much getting your home fixed up - you're tired. That's okay. Just pop in to say hello till your posting juices start up again and they will.
Oh, that's cute about the little bird nest in your water package! :)
Take care and I hope you had a wonderful Easter.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Yes, a bird built a nest on my front door grapvinewreath, you couldn't open the door without mama robin flying out at you. I lived with my son back then and he hated it coming home from work late, would scare him to death!
Hope you get out of your slump soon:)
That is so cute. One year I left our pine christmas wreath up too long on the side of our house and I found that a bird was building her nest in it. She did not lay eggs in it and we moved it to a safer place hoping she would come back, but she never did.
Shari ~ Looks just my garage, old fridge for soda & water, tho we did get new doors installed. I just told hubby to sand down door garage entrace so I can paint it.
We just completed, I think, the last of construction on our home, so I know just how you feel getting everything done & in place.
Love that Lira, she's a cutie.
Have a beautiful weekend.
TTFN ~

I know exactly what you mean about going through a slump. We moved about the same time you did and remodeled. We are still working on things, but not necessarily "pretty" things.
What a odd place for the birds nest!

p.s. I am glad my post on furniture links worked for you!!
Hi Shari,
Wow, that is odd. They certainly do build nests in odd places. One year, we had a bird build a nest under our second story air conditioner, just inside the window sill. We thought that an odd place, being as the air conditioner would run, and make noise. We let it go, and eventually heard babies in there making all kinds of noise like 5:00 am. I don't know how in the world they managed in that tiny space. The following year, as soon as we put the air conditioner in, once again, there was the bird making a nest inside there. I heard her coming and bringing bits to make the nest. I didn't want another nest in there. I started to remove the pieces, and as soon as I removed them, there they were back again. lol! You could just slide the little extension over and the nest was right there. Finally I guess they gave up, and found a new place, thank goodness. The following year, guess what? Yup, again they came. They must have told their other family members lol We had to finally put a small piece of board in there, so they couldn't get in. I was getting little pieces of the nest coming in the window on the bottom also. I was afraid of spiders or bugs coming in. They also like to take residence in my hanging baskets on my porch in the summer.

Ahh...how sweet to have a bird nesting in your garage. Hopefully she will lay eggs and you will get to see the babies.
I have never found a birds nest in an unusual place, now. I wish I had, I love birds and we have dozens around our yard at any given time.
Hugs, cindy
Oh how funny. I bet it is a Carolina Wren. The nest looks just like mine. Oh I hope mine come back and didn't mind the move. I guess yours hatched already?
